Rainy Perfumes to Reminisce About Dubai Rains

Last week saw heavy downpour in some parts of the UAE and light rainfall in others. It isn’t often that it rains here, so I’m already feeling nostalgic for the cosy comfy three days of rain. What better way than to wear perfumes that will transport me right back to rainy days?

Gardens After Rainfall

Guerlain Apres l’Ondee

Jacques Guerlain knew the appeal of the world after the rainfall way back in 1906, the time of this composition a comforting thought that humanity has always loved the same things. Apres l’Ondee is a soft floral, delicate and fresh to bring an instant calm. It’s a walk in a garden of flowers after the rain, the air sweet and carrying the scent of jasmine, rose, violets, and heliotrope. Vetiver brings earthiness, blinding it with a creamy sandalwood for comfort.

Sunshine After Rainfall

This perfume also brings an after-rain effect, but with a citrusy coolness. Ginger and black pepper bring spice, recreating the invigoration of sunshine after rain. The watery accord adds to the rainy character without creating a damp, melancholic feeling.

Rainbow

D.S. & Durga Steamed Rainbow

This niche house known for their eccentric scents used ingredients corresponding to each color of the rainbow. It smells like a city after rain, almost like concrete after rainfall. But as the scent develops, you get a gentle breeze, some warm air– steamed rainbow. Like the packaging, you get a hint of something metallic, the feeling of coldness contrasting with the warmth. It settles into something soft like clouds, a hint of florals, and disappears quickly. Not a long-lasting scent by any means but truly magical.

A Walk Through the Forest After Rainfall

Maison Margiela When the Rain Stops

Maison Margiela call this Replica a petrichor scent, but I have to respectfully disagree. It’s clean and aquatic with soft florals and an ozonic accord. It brings about an innocent joy, the rain notes reminiscent of dancing in the rain, splashing your friends, and setting paper boats to sail. In the drydown, it feels like rain in the forest with the earthiness of vetiver and dampness of oakmoss and the green, forestry touch of pine.

Mythological Rain

Mythology Parfums Thor

How can we end this list without the Norse God of Thunder? Oh what I wouldn’t do to get my hands on a bottle of this perfume. With metallic notes, rain notes, smoke, citruses, and three peppers, the fragrance seems like it would be fiery and invoke Thor’s Mjölnir coming down with all its power.
