A perfumetok trend ended in tragedy for one fragrance enthusiast this month. It has spawned a wave of videos with people carefully placing their designer perfume bottles on their bed, claiming they ‘saw the other video’. Which video? Many in the comments section are talking about the ‘Louis Vuitton Imagination incident’. What is this incident supposed to be?
TikToker certifiedsniffer @certifiedsniffer67 posted a video tossing his bottle of Louis Vuitton Imagination on a bed. It was safe, its fall cushioned by the mattress. He then made the mistake of tossing another perfume bottle (might’ve been YSL MYSLF Le Parfum) on bed. While the first bottle was still there. When two glass bottles made contact with each other, the LV bottle shattered, the light blue perfume spilling everywhere.
What’s worse is the video was posted on Christmas. Not a very merry Christmas when your almost full $300 bottle of perfume breaks. Plus it’s all your fault.
Certifiedsniffer did not start the trend, but his video changed the direction of the trend and gave it new life. It had already been going around tiktok for a few weeks at that point. The videos were all made to the audio that said “Let’s get serious. Here is my fragrance collection. I own about one thousand fragrances. The worth of this collection is about 50,000 dollars.”
It was originally made with humor, the TikTok fragrance community poking fun at themselves for how they act after purchasing 3 or 4 designer fragrances.
While others before him were also slamming their bottles on their beds, they all took care to not let them freefall, taking their hand off only when their bottles were on the bed. They also left space between the bottles so that they won’t jostle about and break. As certifiedsniffer let his cylindrical bottle roll and the other bottle hit it, it was almost inevitable that the bottle would break.
Aside from the humorous videos that followed with captions alluding to the incident, there have been speculations about the video itself. Was it a genuine accident or was it staged for views?
The video currently sits at 20.8 Million views with 3.4 Million likes, 15k comments, 205k bookmarks, and 414.4k shares. The 3.4 Million likes account for the TikToker’s 3.5 Million total likes. It is easy to say he did for clout, but not all planned stunts go viral. We only know the ones that do.
He later participated in another trend where perfume collectors hold up the bottles in their collections by just the bottle cap outside their window. Risky move. The caption is “how much do you trust your cologne?”
So, he isn’t averse to taking risks with his expensive perfumes. Does that prove that he did it intentionally hoping for a viral moment? Not really.
Elijah Yeroushalmi @fragrances, has offered kindly to give the guy a free bottle of the perfume if he can make a new video about said offer and get 100k likes on it. He is at 55.8k likes so far with 550.3k views. If you want to help a young guy out, go give him a like.
The situation got a little sadder when Elijah Yeroushalmi later said he rewatched the viral video a couple of times and realized that the broken bottle was not a real one. He was probably duped by a reseller or it was a really good dupe of the original.
