Oud Zuhal: Amouage’s Ramadan Gift to the GCC

Everything from Amouage is special. Every perfume they create for The Amouage Essences collection is even more special for their unique process. Oud Zuhal, the newest addition to the collection is doubly special as it is a Ramadan special made only for the GCC.

Double Infusion Process

What makes The Amouage Essences more luxurious is their special double infusion process which is done over the period of six months. The process involves compounding perfume concentrates to mature for six months in Amouage’s traditional metallic tanks. Sandalwood chips are added, allowing the concentrates to be infused with its scent.

Pure bioethanol is aged in French oakwood barrels handmade especially for Amouage. The barrels are toasted over fire, a process that primes the wood to add complex and subtle aromas to the bioethanol. The process is known to be used in the ageing of wine, whiskey, and beer.

Exposing the wood to heat caramelized the wood sugars and breaks down the lignin to give off a deeper and complex fragrance profile. The bioethanol would gain nuances of vanilla, roasted accord, and spices along with the woodiness of the barrel.

Unisex

Fragrance Family

Woody Ambery Balsamic

Notes

Top: Black Pepper, Pink Pepper, Cardamom

Middle: Patchouli, Oud Assam

Base: Amber Base, Oud Indonesia

Infusion Patina: Oud Indonesia, Oakwood

The perfume opens bright with black pepper, the pink pepper soothing any fieriness. Cool cardamom influences the oud, keeping it from becoming too heavy to handle. The patchouli brings an earthiness, adding depth and amplifying the oud. Oud Assam, from North Eastern India, is known to be quite intense. It’s earthy, evolving to have smoky and somewhat sweet leathery characteristics. It can also have a lightly resinous touch.

While Assamese Oud is intense and animalic, Indonesian oud is lighter and more balanced. It offers an interesting contrast to the perfume, providing a multidimensional experience of oud.

While other fragrances in the collection are infused with sandalwood chips, Oud Zuhal is infused with Indonesian Oud chips. Rather than a six month-long infusion, the oud chips are aged for 42 days.

The perfume is available to buy online and in select outlets in the GCC. Will you treat yourself this Ramadan with Oud Zuhal? Let Perfume Mag know…
