Juliette Has New Perfumes- Powder Love & Madeleine Impériale

Juliette Has a Gun is set to release two new perfumes– Powder Love and Madeleine Impériale, two very different gourmand fragrances. The brand is known for their fragrances that embody stereotypical femininity with an edgy quality. These fragrances follow the brands two other releases this year- Miami Shake, an ice cream perfume and X Skins, a limited edition collaboration with Dutch brand Skins Cosmetics.

Madeleine Impériale

Notes

Top: Madeleine, Orange

Middle: Vanilla, Tonka

Base: Honey, Woody Notes

I must admit outright that I didn’t know there existed a madeleine note in perfumery. It is a synthetic gourmand note inspired by madeleines, the mini French cakes (or cookies, depending on who you ask) shaped like shells. The most identifiable perfume with this note is the Maison Martin Margiela Afternoon Delight, where it makes you feel like a baked goods along with the vanilla and whipped cream notes.

I’m expecting a deep fragrance with an uplifting start. Something reminiscent of sweet orange cookies. The use of honey in the base hints at a rich, warm, and comforting variety of sweetness rather than a bright sugary one.

Powder Love

Notes

Top: Marshmallow, Cotton Candy

Middle: Sugared Almond, Orange Blossom

Base: Tonka Bean, Ambroxan, Musk

Romano Ricci, the founder of Juliette Has A Gun, is also the perfumer behind this fragrance. The fragrance seems very clean and modern. It opens with the fun, youthful notes of marshmallow and cotton candy. I hope it translates to something plush and soft but also fluffy and airy with a pleasant sweetness. With the almond and orange blossoms in the heart, it could transition from the playful beginnings to something warmer and more elegant. Together with the listed base notes, the perfume gives off a clean and girly vibe. The bottle matches the fragrance, the matte finish representing the fluffy marshmallow and the pink that comes through the glass as light and soft as cotton candy.

Both fragrances are sweet, but it seems that Madeleine Impériale will be deeper and Powder Love more light and youthful. Powder Love is set to be released September, 2025 but the date for Madeleine Impériale is yet to be known.
