Perfume collection can be an expensive hobby to have. Between designer perfumes, their near-perfect dupes, vintage bottles you get shipped from the other side of the world, and niche new brands that we love to support, the perfume-loving community is left with little cash. Cash that we could spend on more perfumes, really. So I’m always on the lookout for discounts and sales in the UAE so I can be more responsible with my purchases.
The one that just came across my radar is the discounts over on the Swiss Arabian website for select fragrances. Here are a few that I recommend buying:
Perfumes
Oud 01
Key notes: Leather, Oud, Violet Leaf, Raspberry
Unisex
With summer turning to autumn in the UAE, oud ouds are coming to the front of our perfume collections, enjoyed more frequently without worrying they might be too strong. Part of Swiss Arabian’s heritage collection, it is one that represents the brand’s history in the UAE as the country’s first-ever perfume manufacturer.
The rose is most prominent at first spritz, giving way to a milder than usual raspberry note. Violet leaf with its fresh, green character adds personality and smooths over the transition to the bitter and lightly sour cumin accord. The animalic facets of cumin combine with that of leather for a multidimensional experience. The oud is typical of what you’ll find in most Swiss Arabian oud perfumes, which is thankfully quite enjoyable.
Shaghaf Vanilla Toffee
Key notes: Vanilla, Coffee, Toffee, Date
Unisex
No one ever needs an excuse to wear sweet syrupy perfumes, but it’s autumn and that’s excuse enough. If you want to feel bathed in a confectionary, Vanilla Toffee from the Shaghaf collection is a solid option. It has the nuttiness of walnut, milky coffee sweetened by toffee, a sprinkle of cardamom for that luxe taste, the smooth sweetness of dates, and more to create a perfectly sweet autumnal fragrance. It is quite strong, so I would recommend it only for those with a great love for sweet gourmands.
Concentrated Perfume Oils
Secret Frankincense
Key notes: Frankincense, Amber, Oud, Lavender
Unisex
Frankincense is synonymous with luxury in my books and Secret Frankincense delivers on that. It’s deep and rich with the combination of oud and ambery accords. I hoped for more florals (rose, lavender, violet, jasmine) but they do get drowned out by the heavier notes. If you’re looking for a frankincense with a more leathery-aromatic touch, you can try the other perfume oil in the Secret Collection- Private Frankincense, which is also available at a discount on the site.
Rose Malaki
Key notes: Rose, Woods, Ginger, Patchouli
Unisex
Rose Malaki leans heavily towards a woody rose fragrance, but it isn’t as simple as that. There’s a kick of spice at the start from ginger and later on a spicy floral from the geranium. The dark, earthy patchouli at the base complements the woody floral fragrance with its own woodiness. It’s nothing novel as far as perfumes go, but it is quite the classic fragrance that is more likely to impress than not.
Home Fragrance
Dukhoon Al Karam
Key notes: Vanilla, Oud, Rose, Praline
Unisex
Al Karam is a gourmand-oud dukhoon that you can burn in an incense burner to have your home smelling as heavenly as you do. It’s sweet and inviting with the comforting hug of musk that makes a house feel more homey. Burning incense may be less efficient if you aren’t used to it, but the results are spectacular, with the fragrance lasting for the longest time. Seeing that it is a sweet fragrance, I would recommend it only for people who absolutely love when their home smells delicious.
