Byredo is a luxury, niche perfume house founded by Ben Gorham in 2006. The Swedish company is known for its creative formulations and storytelling through the sense of smell. Here are a few of their best fragrances in 2025…
Blanche
Key accords: aldehydic, clean, fresh, floral
Feminine
No perfume can be the first mentioned in a list of the best Byredo perfumes other than Blanche. It’s their most popular fragrance, skyrocketing into fame in the past few years though it has been around since 2009. It’s the cleanest of clean girl perfumes with a modern interpretation of aldehydes and soft, powdery florals. It lasts around 6 hours, becoming a soft woody, musky scent. It’s great as an everyday fragrance because it’s light and feels so comforting.
Gypsy Water
Key accords: woody, spicy, citrus, fresh
Unisex
I like everything about this fragrance other than its name. There’s a spicy freshness from the combination of pepper, juniper berries, citruses, and pine needles. It becomes a warm cosy vanilla in the drydown. If you like fresh fragrances but find the clean type a little too screechy, this fragrance is the way to go.
Bal D’Afrique Absolu
Key accords: citrus, woody, sweet
Unisex
If you love the original Bal D’Afrique, you will definitely love this as it’s a richer, more long-lasting formula. At first it’s mostly like the original, and then it becomes sweeter from the praline note. But the praline isn’t so sweet as to take away from the overall freshness of the perfume. It’s balanced by the powderiness of violets. I’d say this perfume can work in any season, a staple in your vanity that you won’t go wrong with.
Tobacco Mandarin
Key accords: spicy, leather, oud, leather
Unisex
Byredo is mostly known for their clean fragrances, but with fragrances like Tobacco Mandarin, they show they can do strong and spicy fragrances just as well. Tobacco Mandarin is kind of underrated so no one would be able to guess what you’re wearing. But they will ask. The cumin is the unexpected protagonist of this story along with the leather. That and the leather gives the mandarin more of an animalic quality. This one’s definitely not for everyone but very special and unique.
Mojave Ghost
Key accords: floral, powdery, woody
Unisex
It’s not often that you see sapodilla in perfumes. The juicy fruit has a barely-there brown sugar like sweetness with some hints of cinnamon. Its earthy facets feel more unique than that of other earthy notes we see more frequently in perfumes. Later on, it’s mostly soft and fresh florals with violets and magnolia. I recommend wearing this in warmer months and during the day. It isn’t the most long-lasting so you might have to reapply in the middle of the day. Byredo makes a Mojave Ghost scented body cream and lotion, which can help your fragrance last longer.
Rose of No Man’s Land
Key accords: rose, woody, spicy, ambery
Unisex
Rose of No Man’s Land is such an elegant dark rose fragrance. It is spicy but there’s a softness about it. That, along with the darkness of the rose, makes for a kind of wistful mood with a touch of longing. It does have some sweetness from raspberry bloom, a synthetic fruity-floral note that keeps the fragrance from getting too dark. This one will work for both the day and night as long as you adjust how much you spray on. If you want a complete fragrance experience, there’s also a hair perfume of the same product.
Vanille Antique
Key accords: vanilla, woody, amber
Unisex
Vanilee Antique has a fruity sweet opening with a hint of woodiness. Much to the disappointment of longtime Byredo fans, this one is not one of their more creative perfumes. It plays into the popularity of vanilla today and I have to say they did a pretty good job. It’s a perfectly good sweet vanilla you can wear in the evenings. As it isn’t the most adventurous formulation, it’s also good for gifting. It’s a dependable vanilla, but at Byredo’s price point, you can go for other vanillas or literally any other Byredo in this list.
Black Saffron
Key accords: leather, fruity, woody, sweet
Unisex
Black Saffron is for someone who wants to get into leather perfumes but is put off by how harsh it can be. With fruity raspberry, the soft, powdery violets, and the cashmeran note, we get to see the softer, more comforting side of leather. It’s a young, modern leather, fit for colder months be it day or night. I wish it lasted longer, but maybe there will be an absolu version in the future to make up for it.
Bibliothèque
Key accords: fruity, leather, powdery
Unisex
Byredo Bibliothèque is what you wear when you read a dark academia like R.F. Kuang’s Babel. It opens with the fruitiness of plum, peach, and raspberries, sweet and exciting. As we progress, we get the feeling of leatherbound books in a grand traditional library. You open one of the books and you’re hit with that beautiful vanilla smell that old books acquire. There’s a thin sheen of dust on the shelves, you pick a book up and dust flies everywhere, bringing a sense of experiencing something older and precious.
