Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif: The New Bleu

Chanel launched their woody men’s fragrance line Bleu de Chanel with the Eau de Toilette in 2010. The Jacques Polge creation has become one of the best Chanel creations for men, inspiring flankers- the Eau de Parfum, Parfum, all over spray. Soon, we’ll have the L’Exclusif.

The successful men’s fragrance line has other scented products making up a fragrance routine including a hair product and moisturizer. Following in the trend of every popular perfume getting richer feeling flankers, Bleu got Parfum and is set to have L’Exclusif. What’s so different about the L’Exclusif?

Key Accords

Woody

Leathery

Amber

Labdanum

Sandalwood

The fragrance takes the woody personality of the Bleu de Chanel line and makes it deeper and richer in this fragrance. At the first waft, you get the typical Bleu de Chanel DNA but with a leathery background. As time goes on, the leather takes precedence with the warm amber and soft sandalwood playing supporting roles. Everyone does ambery fragrances, but Chanel does it in its own unique Chanel way.

If you think the fragrance is dark at first, it gets darker as it progresses and reveals more dimension. There’s a slight sweetness, a bit of powderiness and animalic undertones from the leathery note. The powdery accord with the leather gives it more of a suede feeling rather than a harsh leather.

The longevity is excellent on this one, lasting all evening and more on the skin and days on your clothes. It’s a rather intimate fragrance, so not much of a projection. It’s best for evening wear and has been released at the same time as the end of summer gets closer.

This one, much like the Parfum, is composed by Oliver Polge, Chanel’s in-house perfumer and Jacque Polge’s son. Speaking of the parfum, I’d say that you would like this if you liked the parfum. But they are so similar in use case and style that if you have the parfum, you have no reason to buy the l’exclusif other than that you like it. And isn’t that most of the joy of perfumes?
