Bella Hadid launched her own perfume brand ‘Ôrəbella in 2024 with three fragrances– Salted Muse, Window2Soul, and Blooming Fire. The brand later expanded to include Nightcap and a fifth one joined us just days ago. Eternal Roots.
Eternal Roots is an aspirational perfume. Bella Hadid calls it “A tribute to personal growth and a reminder for us to embrace joy, strength, and balance throughout life’s journey.” The perfume is described as a magnet for the life you want to attract. So, what’s in this magnet?
Notes
Top: Lychee, Bergamot, Pink Pepper
Middle: Pink Sugar, Raspberry Bloom, Labdanum, Suede
Base: Vetiver, Birch Smoke, Patchouli, Papyrus
It’s definitely an exciting and fun start with juicy lychee and the unique spicy-floral freshness of pink pepper that seems to be everywhere. Then there’s the bright exciting sugar note. It’s refreshing that Eternal Roots goes for the fruity floral fantasy accord of raspberry bloom rather than the now ubiquitous raspberry. Its rosy nuances bridges well to the soft leathery accord of suede.
While the opening is exciting and pink, like the joy Bella calls on us to embrace, the scent evolves through the deeper labdanum and suede to connect to the Eternal Roots the name speaks of. Vetiver is strong and grounding in its earthy and woody properties. The birch smoke accord offers its own woodiness and blends beautifully with the leathery properties of labdanum and suede. Together with woody-green papyrus, there’s a beautiful partnership of grounding scents.
Beyond the uniqueness of the fragrance, Eternal Roots comes with the special skin friendly formula of ‘Ôrəbella. All their fragrances are alcohol free, relying instead on a blend of oils to diffuse the scent. Anyone on the wellness side of tiktok would recognize these oils- jojoba, almond, camellia, olive, and shea.
As I said in discussing DedCool’s supposedly skin-friendly perfumes, I don’t see the point of infusing skincare in fragrances. I’m hardly going to spray it all over like it’s one of my serums. Perhaps I just don’t appreciate these formulations enough as I’m not sensitive to alcohol-based perfumes. The 5 oil blend is combined with snow mushroom which became the best new thing for hydration in Korean skincare only a few years ago.
Called a BiPhase formula, the fragrance and skin-friendly elements need a shake of the bottle to come together. Together, they make a cloudy emulsion that reminds me of the two-layered micellar waters. Owing to moisturizing and hydrating properties, I’d hope it can prime the skin to hold fragrance for longer.
Celebrity fragrances stick to trends, going with the safest formulations for the readily available consumer base of fans. While it falls for the trendy pink pepper (I swear I have no agenda against this note), it goes beyond, balancing the line between what’s trending and what’s different. While I do like the sweet gourmand Rare, the last celebrity perfume we looked at, I appreciate that Eternal Roots can maintain mass appeal without compromising on uniqueness.
